Special Features:

This Highland single malt was distilled at Lochside in 1991 and matured for 31 years in a single refill bourbon barrel. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky from cask no. 15194 on 15 February 2023 at its natural cask strength of 47.1%. This single-cask bottling belongs to both Connoisseurs Choice and The Recollection Series #2; the cask yielded just 57 bottles.

All 57 bottles are individually numbered and presented in a wooden box. The whisky was neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose initially reveals mild vanilla. Waxy lemon peel and dried exotic fruit then emerge, accompanied by a hint of ginger.
• Palate: The whisky is sweet and fruity on the palate. Peach and passion fruit are followed by notes of liquorice, blackcurrant and pepper.
• Finish: The finish is medium in length, with delicate herbal notes lingering subtly.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lochside Distillery was established in Montrose on the site of a brewery that closed in 1957. Joseph Hobbs initially had a Coffey still installed there, followed by four pot stills in 1961; Lochside subsequently produced both grain and malt whisky. Production ended in 1992, and the distillery complex was demolished in 2005.

Gordon & MacPhail has been involved in the whisky trade in Elgin since 1895. George Urquhart launched Connoisseurs Choice in 1968. The range now encompasses more than 2,000 bottlings from almost 100 Scottish distilleries; the family business draws on experience passed down through four generations when matching spirit with oak casks. For this bottling, Gordon & MacPhail cared for the whisky in its own warehouses for more than three decades before bottling it in 2023.
