This single malt was distilled at The Macallan in 2001 and matured for 23 years in a single refill sherry butt. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky from cask 5101 in 2024 for the Speymalt range. The release comprises 495 bottles.

Bottled at its natural cask strength of 58.8%, this release is uncoloured and non-chill-filtered. Its profile combines citrus and dark dried fruit with Demerara sugar, dark chocolate, spices and oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals Seville orange, stewed fruit and cinnamon alongside dark dried fruit, raisins, sherry spice and polished wood.
• Palate: On the palate, Seville orange, cinnamon and rich fruit compote meet Demerara sugar, dark chocolate and piquant pepper.
• Finish: The lingering finish retains Medjool dates and other sweet dried fruits such as figs and raisins, accompanied by spiced oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Macallan traces its origins to Alexander Reid and was licensed to distil in 1824. The distillery is located on the Easter Elchies Estate beside the River Spey and produced the single malt used for this release.

Gordon & MacPhail originated in 1895 with the Elgin business founded by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail. The Speyside family company developed into a specialist in matching spirit with casks; for this Speymalt release, it was responsible for the cask maturation, selection and bottling.
