This Macduff is part of Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength range. Distilled in 2006, the whisky matured for 17 years in previously used Bourbon Barrel 101693. On 6 August 2024, 180 bottles were filled at 54.9%. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colour. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Its character combines fresh orchard fruit and floral notes with tropical fruit and creamy sweetness. Its pale gold colour, maturation in a refill Bourbon Barrel and non-smoky profile are all distinctive features of this single-cask bottling.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, green apple and lemon mingle with floral aromas. Poached pear, tropical fruit and vanilla cream then emerge.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet pineapple and banana give way to milk chocolate. Orange and lime peel follow, alongside butterscotch.
• Finish: The sweet finish has medium weight, with a lingering note of mint.

Distillery/Bottler:

Macduff stands near Banff on the River Deveron. The distillery was built in the early 1960s to a design by William Delme-Evans. Its two wash stills and three spirit stills produce a relatively light, fruity spirit. John Dewar & Sons operates Macduff within the Bacardi group.

Founded in Elgin in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail bottles this Macduff as an independent bottler. The family business matures selected new make spirit in casks procured for that purpose and chooses when to bottle it according to how each cask develops. George Urquhart established the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968 to showcase single malts from different Scottish distilleries in their own right.
