Ageing in former bourbon casks shapes Malecon Reserva Superior 12 Year Old. This molasses-based rum is distilled in Panama using the Cuban method. After at least twelve years of cask ageing, the master blender combines the matured rums to create the final blend.

Vanilla, subtle fruit and oak combine with a delicate sweetness, while the fresh, peppery finish provides a spicy counterpoint. At 40%, the rum can be enjoyed neat or used in cocktails such as a Cuba Libre or a Panama Mule with ginger beer. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

• Palate: The palate offers a delicate sweetness with oak. Fruit, vanilla and spicy notes round out the flavour.

Distillery/Bottler:

Marco Savio is the man behind Rum Malecon. In 1990, he joined the family business, founded in 1958, which at the time produced liqueurs and imported coffee into Italy. His travels to Central America also introduced him to rum production. After around ten years of learning and experimenting with rum masters in Cuba, Guatemala and Panama, he founded the Malecon brand in 2000.

This rum is produced by Bodegas de America S.A. in Panama. Rum Malecon production begins with sugar cane grown near the distillery, harvested by hand and processed into molasses. The molasses ferments slowly in open vats with naturally occurring yeasts. After distillation, the rum is reduced to 75% before being aged in former bourbon casks.
