Ron Malteco's Reserva Maya matures for 15 years in bourbon casks. It combines a sweet, chocolatey character with fruit notes and delicate oak spice. This rum from Panama is bottled at 40%.

The rum has a deep amber colour in the glass. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in green gift packaging. A rounded glass is a suitable choice for enjoying it neat, with dark chocolate as an accompaniment.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, coconut and raisins meet creamy vanilla. Chocolate and caramel add further notes, alongside subtle oak and a hint of cinnamon.
• Palate: The rum is soft, sweet and intense on the palate. Milk chocolate with caramel combines with vanilla and plums. A malty nuance and delicate oak spice round out the flavour.
• Finish: Pronounced sweet and fruity impressions linger on the finish. Caramel, vanilla and chocolate accompany the silky, creamy mouthfeel.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bodegas de América S.A. produces Ron Malteco in Panama. Production uses fresh sugar cane juice and yeast, with distillation carried out in a column still. Savio s.r.l. in Châtillon handles the packaging. The rum is bottled under the responsibility of Bodegas de América S.A.

Behind Savio is Marco Savio, whose travels and work in the international spirits trade led him to Caribbean rums. As he developed his rum business, he worked with Francisco Fernandez, known as Don Pancho, who had previously been a master blender for Cuban rums. Cask selection and the development of rum recipes were important parts of their collaboration.
