Special Features:

Long maturation in former bourbon barrels shapes Malteco Reserva del Fundador. The rum is made in Panama from fresh sugar cane juice, which is fermented and distilled in a column still. It then matures in oak casks for at least 20 years. Its production follows a recipe passed down from Guatemala.

Toasted spices and woody tobacco notes define the intense aromatic character, complemented by sweet fruit and chocolate notes. Bottled at 40% alcohol, it comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging. The quetzal, the brand's bird motif, appears on both the bottle and the box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense toffee and vanilla notes lead on the nose, complemented by dark fruit and oak.
• Palate: Dark chocolate and woody notes combine with vanilla pudding on the palate. Subtle hints of nuts and raisins add further detail.
• Finish: The medium-length finish fades with velvety woody notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bodegas de America S.A. produces Malteco in Panama. The Italian family business Savio is behind the brand. Paolino Savio founded the company in 1958, initially working in coffee roasting and spirits. Traditional liqueurs from Italy and the Aosta Valley later joined the range. His son Marco drove the development of further products and international markets.

Savio works with producers in Panama for its rum brands. Distillation and cask maturation take place there according to the company's own recipes and specifications. The rum is then transported in bulk to Châtillon in the Aosta Valley, where Savio carries out the final quality checks and bottling. Sugar cane juice and column distillation are fundamental to Malteco's production.
