Special Features:

Mars Kasei brings together malt and grain whisky from a range of casks to create a smooth, rounded blend. Alongside spirit from Mars Shinshu Distillery, it contains Scottish malt and grain whisky. White flowers and ripe fruit define its character, with a subtle smoky note providing a restrained contrast.

Kasei means Mars in Japanese. The red planet appears on the black bottle label and matching gift box. The whisky is bottled at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: White flowers and ripe fruit emerge on the nose, accompanied by a hint of smoke.
• Palate: The whisky is warming on the palate, combining honey with green apples and white grapes.
• Finish: Pastry-like notes come through on the finish, together with citrus and vanilla.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hombo Shuzo is the company behind Mars. It began making whisky in 1949 with technical guidance from Kiichiro Iwai. In 1960, production moved to Yamanashi; the Mars brand name was chosen through a public naming competition.

Mars Shinshu Distillery opened in 1985 at the foot of Mount Komagatake in Nagano Prefecture. It stands at an altitude of 798 metres in Japan's Central Alps. Falling demand led to the suspension of distillation in 1992, before production resumed in 2011 after 19 years. Since 2024, it has been known as Mars Komagatake Distillery. With Tsunuki Distillery and the maturation warehouse on Yakushima, Mars also has sites offering different climatic conditions for whisky maturation.
