The high proportion of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies shapes the character of Martell Cordon Bleu. The blend brings together over 100 different eaux-de-vie. The Borderies give the Cognac its particularly rounded, mellow character, while candied fruit and toasted notes provide aromatic contrasts.

Edouard Martell created Cordon Bleu in 1912 and introduced it at the Hôtel de Paris in Monaco. After blending, the eaux-de-vie for this bottling rest in tanks for three months. The Cognac has a deep golden-copper colour and is bottled at 40%. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in blue gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Candied plums and apples mingle with mocha, roasted almonds and vetiver on the nose. The aromas are lively and rich.
• Palate: The Cognac is exceptionally rounded and mellow on the palate. The Borderies eaux-de-vie reinforce this supple character and add complexity.
• Finish: The long finish is dry. Fruit and spice are accompanied by tobacco leaf, pastries, roasted almonds and violet blossoms.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1715, Martell is one of the oldest major Cognac houses. Its roots lie in France’s Charente region, and it has belonged to Pernod Ricard since 2001. A defining feature of its approach is the double distillation of clear wines from which the lees have been removed. This is intended to produce a light, clean spirit whose character develops further during cask maturation.

Martell uses fine-grained oak and only lightly toasted casks for maturation. The eaux-de-vie are initially kept separate by origin and quality; spirits from different growing areas are brought together only in the final blend. The close connection with the Borderies dates back to Jean Martell, who was already trading primarily in Cognacs from this area in the early 18th century.
