Meukow XO brings together eaux-de-vie from four crus of the Cognac region in a single blend. The fine spirits from Grande and Petite Champagne meet the softer eaux-de-vie from Fins Bois and Bons Bois. Long ageing in oak casks adds robust tannins, giving structure to the interplay between these different growing areas.

In the glass, the Cognac is clear and mahogany in colour. Its character spans candied citrus fruit and prune, intense nutty notes, chocolate and leather. It is bottled at 40% in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Distillery/Bottler:

The brothers Auguste-Christophe and Gustav Meukow came from Silesia and began travelling to France in 1850 to purchase eaux-de-vie. On 1 August 1862, they founded their trading house in the town of Cognac. Since 1979, Meukow has belonged to Compagnie de Guyenne, the independent family group built by Michel Coste. The panther bottle was created on his initiative in 1993 and became the brand's hallmark.

The house's work centres on selecting, ageing and blending different eaux-de-vie. After the wines have been distilled twice, the resulting spirits are selected for ageing in oak casks. Cellar master Anne Sarteaux oversees their development in the dark, humid cellars and blends different vintages and ages. To shape the house style, she draws on the floral qualities of the Champagne crus as well as the fruity and woody contributions of other growing areas. This general approach provides the background to the specific selection of crus for Meukow XO.
