Special Features:

Millstone Peated PX matures for at least four years in first- and second-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Raisins, plums and chocolate mingle with the gentle smoke of this peated single malt. Zuidam bottles the whisky at 46%.

Citrus fruit, herbs and a slightly grassy note add contrast to the dark fruit and chocolate. The gift set contains a 0.35-litre bottle of whisky and two Millstone glasses in a wooden box. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, gentle campfire smoke joins raisins and plums, with orange, candied lemon peel, liquorice and herbal tea.
• Palate: On the palate, gentle smoke, chocolate and orange peel meet chamomile and mint, with a slightly grassy note.
• Finish: The long finish brings dark chocolate and smoke that gradually fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers is a family business in Baarle-Nassau, near the Belgian border. Fred and Hélène van Zuidam founded it in 1976; their sons Patrick and Gilbert now run the company. Patrick began experimenting with the distillery’s first whisky casks in 1996. The name Millstone refers to the windmills Zuidam uses to mill grain.

For Millstone, Zuidam ferments the mash for seven days and distils it slowly in small copper pot stills. For Peated PX, the distillery uses a clear wort and a long, cool fermentation with brewer’s and distiller’s yeasts before the whisky matures in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Zuidam makes the whisky itself and bottles it under the Millstone brand.
