Full maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks defines Millstone Special #29: the whisky spent all seven years of maturation in these casks, rather than receiving only a final finish. Sweet dried fruit, chocolate and light spice shape its character.

Zuidam distilled this Dutch single malt on 30 August 2016; it was bottled on 30 October 2023. The edition comprises 2,684 bottles at 46% alcohol. The whisky is not smoky, is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with a presentation tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, raisins and figs mingle with caramel and chocolate. Subtle oak and vanilla notes complement the aromas. A delicate rancio note adds a further mature accent.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied on the palate, with dried fruit, toffee and citrus notes alongside light spice. Its pronounced sweetness is accompanied by gentle spice and oak notes.
• Finish: The finish is long and smooth. A warm, light sweetness lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Millstone is the whisky brand of the family-owned Zuidam Distillers in Baarle-Nassau, near the Dutch–Belgian border. Fred and Hélène van Zuidam began producing liqueurs and genever professionally in 1976. Their sons Patrick and Gilbert now run the company. Patrick's ambition to make his own whisky led to the first experimental whisky casks in 1996.

The name Millstone refers to the Dutch windmills where grain is milled for the whisky. Zuidam's production methods include a seven-day fermentation and slow distillation in small copper pot stills; both contribute to the fruity character of Millstone whiskies. The selected oak casks are stored in warm, dry conditions. On average, four to six per cent of their contents evaporate each year.
