Sherry cask maturation brings together floral notes and a pronounced fruity, spicy character in this Miltonduff. Duncan Taylor selected it for its Single Cask Whisky range: the whisky comes exclusively from cask 83900087, with a release of 358 bottles.

The whisky was distilled in April 2011 and bottled after twelve years in November 2023. It has a cask strength of 54.4% and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in a tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, warm buttered toast and blackberry jam meet violets, lilac and fresh grass. Dried fruit, chocolate, caramel and bold spice notes round out the aroma.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and rich on the palate. Rum raisins, gingerbread and juicy cherries combine with sweet Seville oranges and spiced baked apple. Chocolate cake with cream and pleasant tannins complete the flavour profile.
• Finish: Fruity, sweet sherry notes, bold oak spice and caramelised nuts linger in the long finish. Floral accents accompany the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

Miltonduff is located near Elgin in Speyside and received its distilling licence in 1824. The site's history is linked to the former grain mill of Pluscarden Abbey. Miltonduff plays an important role in Ballantine's blends; this single-cask bottling, by contrast, presents the whisky as a single malt in its own right.

The distillery uses stainless-steel washbacks and three pairs of onion-shaped copper stills. Its water comes from the Black Burn. This equipment forms the backdrop to whisky production at Miltonduff, while Duncan Taylor selected the individual cask for this release.

Duncan Taylor was founded in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask broker and trading company. Over the decades, it built up stocks of mature whisky casks that later became the foundation of its independent bottlings. Euan Shand bought the company and its whisky stocks in 2001 and moved the business to his hometown of Huntly in Aberdeenshire. There, Duncan Taylor opened a larger facility for blending, storage and bottling in 2014.
