Peppermint is at the heart of Minttu: natural peppermint flavouring, alcohol and Finnish water form the basis of this clear liqueur. Minttu is made with Finnish groundwater that takes three months to pass through a sandy ridge shaped by the Ice Age. Sugar developed specifically for Minttu and peppermint of the species Mentha piperita are also used, with the peppermint providing the mint flavour. Bold mint combines with light sweetness and a smooth taste. This version contains 40% alcohol and comes in a 0.5-litre bottle.

Minttu is traditionally served well chilled or straight from the freezer as a shot. Its mint flavour also complements hot chocolate, coffee and cocktails. In desserts such as ice cream, chocolate mousse or brownies, it adds a fresh contrast to the sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Minttu originated in the late 1980s with the idea of offering a clear peppermint liqueur in an ice-cube-shaped bottle. The brand first became known in the Nordic skiing scene, where hot chocolate with Minttu is part of après-ski. Minttu means mint in Finnish.

Minttu is produced in Turku in southern Finland. The history of spirits production there dates back to 1867, when the merchant Anders Nordfors received permission to establish a production facility. The operation has belonged to Hartwall since 2025. An in-house laboratory monitors the quality of the drinks. For Minttu, quality control begins with the selection and analysis of raw materials; the product undergoes more than 40 laboratory analyses. The factory holds certifications including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and the FSSC 22000 food safety standard. The operation uses Finnish wind-generated electricity, as well as steam and district heating from renewable energy sources.
