Special Features:

Tropical and continental ageing combine in this Monymusk's total maturation of 23 years. The Jamaican molasses rum bears the AHJ mark and was distilled in a pot still. On 4 November 1998, it was filled into cask 26761, an American oak barrel previously used for bourbon. Its initial maturation in Jamaica was followed by further ageing in Scotland.

Rest & Be Thankful bottled the rum on 5 September 2022 at its cask strength of 59.4%. Following evaporation losses of over 39%, the cask yielded 181 bottles. The rum was neither chill-filtered nor coloured. It comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging; both the bottle and box feature a colourful design depicting tropical plants and animals.

The bottling's technical figures are 627.9 grams of volatile substances and 89.6 grams of esters per hectolitre of pure alcohol. Its flavour combines tropical fruit with subtle vanilla, sweet and spicy impressions, and a warm oak finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Monymusk comes from Clarendon Distillery in Lionel Town, in the Jamaican parish of Clarendon. Its name derives from the sugar estate of the same name, with which the distillery has historical ties. Its former owner, the Monymusk Sugar Factory, began operating in 1901. When the state-owned Sugar Corporation of Jamaica separated its rum operations in 1980, the distillery business passed to National Rums of Jamaica.

Rest & Be Thankful began in 2012 with Scottish single cask whiskies. The team's connections with Bruichladdich made early bottlings of Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte and Octomore possible; Jamaican rums later joined the range. For its Single Cask Rums, the independent bottler focuses on individually selected casks, cask strength and the absence of additives and chill filtration. The name recalls a pass on Scotland's A83: a stone inscription dating from 1753 marks the rest taken after the steep climb from Glen Croe. A place of the same name in Jamaica links the brand's two worlds of origin.
