Special Features:

This single-cask bottling presents Mortlach after twelve years of maturation in a refill hogshead. Distilled in 2013, the whisky was bottled by Master of Malt at cask strength in 2025 at 61.6%; the cask yielded 300 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres. The restrained influence of the refill hogshead allows the distillery’s heavy, malty character and intense fruit to stand out clearly. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines creamy malt, overripe fruit and candied pineapple with almond butter and buttery pastry filled with jam.
• Palate: The palate is powerfully full, with juicy barley, a touch of toffee, browned butter and syrup-soaked sponge cake, complemented by yellow plum, buttery pastry, hazelnut cream and oak-tinged vanilla.
• Finish: The long, powerful finish combines meaty malt with dense caramel sweetness, candied walnut and salted papaya, alongside drying oak and lingering spice; a touch of chilli chocolate also emerges.

Distillery/Bottler:

Mortlach was founded in 1823 on the site of a former illicit distillery and was Dufftown’s first legal distillery. Towards the end of the 19th century, Alexander Cowie developed the 2.81-times distillation process that remains in use today. Together with the traditional worm-tub condensers, this process contributes to the spirit’s heavy, robust character. Master of Malt began in 1985 as an independent bottler and mail-order retailer specialising in single malts. For this release, Master of Malt selected a single refill hogshead and bottled the whisky matured in it in 2025.
