Its maturation links Panama with France’s Charente region: after prolonged ageing in American oak casks in its country of origin, this fifteen-year-old rum moves to the Naud family’s cool Cognac cellars. Bourbon casks contribute to its spicy character, with woody and subtle smoky notes. The rum is offered at 41.3% in a 0.7-litre bottle.

The project grew out of a meeting between the Naud family and the owners of a sugarcane hacienda in Panama’s Herrera region. The sugarcane grows on the Azuero Peninsula. The aromatic profile brings together coconut, tonka bean and vanilla sugar with sweet pastry notes, liquorice and cinnamon.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals vanilla and tonka bean, accompanied by cane sugar and cedarwood.
• Palate: The rum feels soft and rounded on the palate. Caramel, cocoa and cinnamon mingle with pastry notes and fine woody tones.
• Finish: The long finish is warming, fading with gentle woody notes and mild spices.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Naud family’s history is linked to a distillery founded by Emile Perrier. Perrier made his name producing fruit liqueurs, and the family developed its work with spirits over five generations. In the 1980s, trained oenologist Jean-Michel Naud rediscovered the distillery. Together with his children Clarisse and Pierre, he brought its copper stills back into operation.

With Ron Panama, the family brings its experience in selection and maturation to a cross-border project. Rum production begins in Panama, while further refinement takes place in the family’s Cognac cellars in the Charente.
