Special Features:

Wild gorse from Islay gives Nerabus Gorse its distinctive floral character. The hand-picked flowers are used in an infusion. The recipe contains nine botanicals in total, including juniper, citrus fruits and sweet almonds. Gorse was released in September 2021 as the distillery’s second gin, using gorse instead of the heather infusion found in Nerabus Heather.

Juniper remains firmly at the forefront despite the floral accent. Delicate almond notes and restrained sweetness complement it, while the finish stays light. The gin is bottled at 40% in 0.7-litre bottles. A suggested serve pairs it with ice, a slice of lemon and a Mediterranean tonic.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Juniper takes centre stage on the nose, joined by light floral notes, hints of citrus and sweet almond.
• Palate: Juniper opens the palate, followed by delicate gorse blossom. Spice emerges towards the middle, accompanied by subtle almond sweetness. Gorse returns at the end.
• Finish: The finish remains light, fading with subtle sweetness and spicy notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Nerabus is the creation of Scottish family business Islay Gin Ltd., founded by Dr. John Gow and his wife, Dr. Audrey Gow. John brought around thirty years of experience in biomedical and forensic science. Audrey had previously worked at a distillery on Islay, where she handled international customer relations and spirits exports.

The brand takes its name from the small settlement of Nerabus on Islay. Island plants have a specific role in the range: the Heather bottlings use wild heather, while the Gorse bottlings use gorse. The company has been handcrafting its gins since 2017 and bottles them on Islay.
