Masataka Taketsuru founded Nikka’s predecessor company in 1934 and built his first distillery in Yoichi on Hokkaido. His training in Scotland covered malt and grain whisky production as well as blending.
After Rita’s death, Taketsuru worked with his son Takeshi on Super Nikka. Launched in October 1962 as the company’s highest-quality whisky at the time, the blend was initially presented in a hand-blown crystal bottle. Nikka blends and bottles Super Nikka itself.
