This microdistillery, founded in 2013 in Ōtsu, produces small batches of rum from kokuto sugar and has experimented with various types of barrels. The rum aged in barrels made from Russian Mizunara oak and was distilled in 2017. With an alcohol content of 58%, it is bottled at cask strength and without chill filtration. The small batch consists of only four barrels, making it special.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, it shows a full-bodied and smooth character with fruity and honey-sweet notes. These gradually transition into medicinal and smoky tones, which eventually take on wine-like and chewy nuances.
• Palate: On the palate, the rum presents itself lively with grassy notes of freshly cut hay and alfalfa, which gradually transition into creamy vanilla and salty facets.
• Finish: In the finish, the rum is gentle and lingering, accompanied by a bitter chocolate aftertaste that explodes into flavors of brown sugar.

Distillery/Bottler: The Nine Leaves Distillery is known for producing small batches of rum and has used innovative processes in its production. This rum is bottled by La Maison & Velier. Despite the closure of the distillery in 2023, its legacy remains in the form of unique products characterized by a careful selection of barrels and special aging conditions. The distillery utilized small copper pot stills and experimented with different aging locations to influence the maturation.
