Special Features:

For the closed North of Scotland Distillery’s first official bottling, whisky from six bourbon casks was blended. The Single Grain matured for more than 50 years and was released in 2017 at 40.4% ABV, with 1,500 bottles produced. Ricky Christie, the distillery founder’s son, brought out the edition with Elixir Distillers. The bottle comes in a wooden box.

Pecan, vanilla cream and toffee form a creamy core. Nectarine, raspberry, baked apple and blood orange add fruit notes, while cinnamon and nutmeg, together with tarragon and oregano, bring spice and herbs.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pecans and vanilla cream meet nectarine and raspberry. Toffee, light sugar syrup and baked apple follow, accompanied by a hint of furniture polish and dusty cinnamon. Crème caramel, blood orange and cherries add further aromas.
• Palate: The whisky initially feels dense and creamy on the palate, becoming juicier after the second sip. Vanilla cream, nutmeg and cinnamon mingle with blood orange and toasted hazelnut, alongside subtle notes of tarragon and oregano.
• Finish: Walnut, toasted almond and vanilla fudge linger in the finish before slowly fading.

Distillery/Bottler:

George P. Christie converted the former Forth Brewery in Cambus into a distillery for grain and malt whisky. From 1958, patent stills and pot stills operated side by side. Malt production under the Strathmore name ended as early as 1959; the site then focused on grain whisky until North of Scotland closed in 1980.

Christie deliberately retained more flavour-bearing compounds in the spirit during distillation so that the grain whisky would keep a character of its own as it aged. His son Ricky Christie worked with Elixir Distillers on the distillery’s first official edition. Once the casks had been selected, the whisky was blended and bottled.
