Project Four Vanilla Cane brings together tropically aged rums from the Caribbean and Madagascar. Oldman Spirits combines light rums produced in column stills with heavy pot-still rums. The result is a sweet blend with a creamy texture and distinct vanilla and caramel notes.

Customers helped select the blend: in October 2015, the team presented three trial blends for a vote. The third received the most votes and became the basis for Project Four. Bottled at 40% alcohol, it comes in a 0.7-litre bottle. Served neat at room temperature, its dessert character makes it particularly well suited to rounding off a meal.

In 2019, Project Four won Grand Gold at the Frankfurt International Trophy.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla and caramel lead the intense yet soft nose. A hint of dried fruit complements the sweet notes.
• Palate: The blend is creamy and sweet on the palate. Vanilla, caramel and toffee sweets meet a delicate nutty nuance and restrained spice. Chocolate and light notes of cinnamon and clove round out the full-bodied impression.
• Finish: Vanilla sweetness lingers on the finish, contrasted by light spicy notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Oldman Spirits develops and blends rums in Schleswig-Holstein. Its own brand, Spirits of Old Man, includes the Rum Project range, whose individual blends highlight different flavour profiles. The search for a pronounced vanilla note was already a focus when the team developed its first product; Project Four finally fulfilled that original ambition.

In its early years, the company bottled, labelled and packaged its products by hand. By 2024, it had expanded its operations to include a cask warehouse and semi-automatic and fully automatic bottling lines. Alongside its own blends and single-cask bottlings, Oldman Spirits also develops and bottles products for other clients.
