Old St. Croix (Riise) Danish Navy Frigate Jylland

Special features: This rum is a tribute to the Danish frigate Jylland, one of the largest and oldest wooden ships in the world. Between 1871 and 1887, the Jylland made five voyages to the West Indies to represent Danish interests. During this time, crew members received a daily ration of rum from Albert Heinrich Riise, the founder of the A.H. Riise brand. The rum is produced using traditional apothecary methods and consists of a blend of rum distillates, some of which are up to 20 years old. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this rum goes towards the restoration and preservation of the frigate Jylland.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense aromas of cedar wood, caramel, and dark chocolate, accompanied by fresh notes of grass and mint.
• Palate: Starts mild and develops into a complex flavor with pineapple, honeydew melon, banana, and a seductive note of whole milk chocolate.
• Finish: A hint of candied orange, followed by a slightly spicy note.

Distillery/Bottler: A.H. Riise Spirits, founded by Albert Heinrich Riise, a Danish pharmacist who established a pharmacy business on the island of St. Thomas in the West Indies in 1838. Riise began producing rum and bitters, originally for medicinal purposes, and developed brands such as Old St. Croix, Riise's Guava Rum, and A.H. Riise Rum. His rum became internationally known and won numerous awards, including the first in 1893 at the Colombian World Exhibition in Chicago.
