Special Features:

Distilled in 2011, this blended malt matured for a total of ten years. After maturation in bourbon hogsheads, it was finished for 18 months in first-fill Port and Madeira casks. Batch 6 combined the contents of four casks, from which Murray McDavid bottled 1,318 bottles at 50%. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no colouring.

The overall profile brings together sweet cinnamon and ripe fruit with smoke, leather, spice and oak. The bottling thus combines the fruity, sweet influence of the wine-cask finish with the blended malt’s robust smoky character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, juicy nectarines and ripe berries mingle with pronounced barbecue smoke and a delicate peppery spice.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky displays a full-bodied smoky character, accompanied by roasted oranges and oak that lends structure.
• Finish: The finish is long, combining creamy vanilla with sweet oak spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin, together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. The bottler embraced the maturation of Scotch whisky in different types of cask from an early stage, with a particular focus on wine casks, and is now based at Coleburn Distillery in Speyside. The distilleries whose malt whiskies were blended for Peatside Batch 6 are not disclosed; the emphasis is on the composition of the blend and its carefully selected cask finish.
