Penderyn Rich Oak Finish combines maturation in selected ex-bourbon casks with a finish in reconditioned European ex-wine casks. These are shaved, toasted and re-charred using the STR process. The resulting cask-driven character brings together oak and spices with the whisky’s pronounced fruitiness.

The expression joined Penderyn’s Gold Range after the Rich Oak Single Cask and 50% bottlings. It is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring. Penderyn also identifies this whisky as kosher certified.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with dark chocolate fudge, cinnamon and pepper, followed by juicy green apple, mango, banana and guava.
• Palate: The whisky is rich and complex on the palate. Its creamy texture carries vanilla, oak and cinnamon, together with a hint of nutty toffee.
• Finish: Creamy vanilla lingers throughout the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Penderyn began in the late 1990s with a group of friends who wanted to bring commercial whisky distilling back to Wales after it had largely disappeared for more than a century. They chose the village of Penderyn on the southern edge of Brecon Beacons National Park as the location, partly because of the natural spring available there. The first distillation took place in September 2000, and Penderyn Whisky was officially launched on St David’s Day in 2004.

A defining feature of the distillery is the copper still designed by Dr David Faraday and topped by a column. It produces spirit at up to 92%, helping to shape Penderyn’s light, fruity style. Whisky expert Dr Jim Swan joined the company in 2002 and played a central role in its development. Alongside its Faraday stills, Penderyn has also used traditional lantern stills since 2014 to work with richer, oilier distillates.
