This bottling presents Port Askaig’s heavily smoky Islay style at a high bottling strength. It is matured exclusively in unrinsed first-fill bourbon casks, with each small batch comprising whisky from around 60 casks. The designation 100 Proof corresponds to 57.1% alcohol. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured and comes without gift packaging.

Dark charcoal and peat smoke form the core of the profile. Honeyed lemon peel, ginger, caramel and milk chocolate provide bright, sweet and spicy contrasts, while apple, vanilla and maritime nuances broaden its character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines buttered rye bread and honeyed lemon peel with dark charcoal smoke and milk chocolate. Ripe apple and delicate vanilla complement the pronounced peat smoke.
• Palate: Bright ginger and citrus meet peat smoke and caramel sweetness on the palate. Pepper, maritime nuances and the gentle melt of milk chocolate reinforce the powerful, spicy impression.
• Finish: The finish is long and becomes increasingly herbal. Aniseed, raspberry leaves and lime sweets with chocolate centres linger alongside apple, creamy vanilla and persistent smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Port Askaig is an Islay single malt brand created by Elixir Distillers in 2009 and named after the port village of Port Askaig. The distillery that produced this bottling is not disclosed; instead, Elixir Distillers selects Islay whiskies to achieve the brand’s intended profile.

Elixir Distillers grew out of the independent bottling division Speciality Drinks, which adopted its current name in 2017. The company develops, blends and bottles spirits. For Port Askaig, Whisky Maker Oliver Chilton selects mature casks and brings them together to create the individual bottlings.
