For the 25-year-old Port Askaig, Elixir Distillers selects a batch of casks from an undisclosed Islay distillery. Flavour and a full texture guide the selection. The mature whisky combines pronounced peat and coal smoke with tropical fruit, floral notes, leather and spices.

The whisky is bottled at 45.8% without chill filtration or added colour and comes in a premium box. The bottle contains 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, coal smoke first meets pineapple, lychee, guava and unripe banana. Floral notes, peach and the smell of spent matches then emerge; water brings out cherry.
• Palate: The whisky feels full and savoury on the palate, with impressions of pastrami, air-dried sausage, rye crackers and grilled vegetables. Soft leather, nutmeg and grapefruit follow. Olive oil, oats and walnuts add to the savoury notes on the palate, while dried orange peel and white pepper bring fruity and spicy accents.
• Finish: The long finish fades with herbs and dry wood smoke. Thyme, bay leaf and lingering warmth deepen the herbal impression.

Port Askaig is a brand of independent bottler Elixir Distillers, named after the port that has served as a gateway to Islay for generations. The distillery behind this 25-year-old single malt is undisclosed. Elixir Distillers selects the casks for this bottling for their flavour and full texture.

Elixir Distillers has continued to develop cask selection and maturation for the brand for more than fifteen years. Its broader approach to Port Askaig includes transferring young Islay single malt into selected types of cask for further maturation.
