Special Features:

This Single Grain was distilled at Port Dundas on 10 October 2000 and bottled from Bourbon Barrel #305281 on 20 January 2026 after 25 years. Best Dram selected the single cask for Kirsch Import’s 50th anniversary. It yielded 151 bottles at a cask strength of 55.9%. The whisky retains its natural colour and was not chill-filtered.

Maturation in the bourbon cask places sweet pastry and fruit notes at the forefront. Vanilla shortbread, pear, baked pineapple and ripe gooseberries meet crème brûlée and toasted almonds. Coconut, honey, caramelised cane sugar, soft caramel, delicate oak and gentle tannins broaden the creamy profile, which finishes with a touch of dryness.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals shortbread, vanilla and crème brûlée with caramelised pear and baked pineapple. Coconut, runny honey and restrained oak spice complete the aromatic profile.
• Palate: The whisky feels silky, soft and creamy on the palate. Ripe pear, pronounced vanilla sweetness and baked pineapple initially take centre stage, followed by caramelised cane sugar, liquid caramel, pale honey notes and toasted almond, while delicate wood notes provide structure.
• Finish: The finish is long, sweet and warming, initially led by vanilla. Subtle dryness, creamy wood notes, oak and delicate spice then emerge; toasted notes and fine fruit fade with gentle tannins.

Distillery/Bottler:

Port Dundas was built in 1811 beside the Forth & Clyde Canal in Glasgow. The distillery was equipped with a Coffey still around 1832, merged with the neighbouring Cowlairs Distillery in 1860 and became a founding member of the Distillers Company Limited in 1877. At the height of its development, it was Scotland’s largest distillery. In 2010, Diageo decided to concentrate grain whisky production at Cameronbridge; Port Dundas ceased operations in 2011, and the site was subsequently demolished.

Best Dram is a bottling range from Whisky Druid, the independent bottler founded by Michel Reick. It focuses on individual casks bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration or added colouring. Reick selected Bourbon Barrel #305281 for this anniversary edition.
