Special Features:

New American oak shapes this molasses rum from Massachusetts. It matured for five years and five months in cask P430 and belongs to the Letter of Marque range. La Maison du Whisky selected it as a European Exclusive. The series features single casks from Privateer’s warehouse, selected in collaboration with trade partners.

The rum was bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.8%, without added sugar or colouring and without chill filtration. The release comprises 215 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres. Its profile combines pronounced vanilla and spice notes with fruit, pastries and a woody finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pronounced vanilla appears alongside caramel and grated nutmeg on the nose. Toasted coconut and cardamom add to the spicy aromas.
• Palate: Juicy pear meets a touch of cinnamon on the palate. Warm buttery pastries, pancakes with vanilla sauce and cream toffees follow, while a distinct oak note gradually develops. Caramel and nutmeg round out the flavours.
• Finish: The medium-length finish reveals pronounced cardamom and toasted hazelnuts, together with a subtle woody note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Privateer is based in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The distillery uses a long, cool fermentation and matures its rums in New England’s maritime climate. Seasonal temperature changes influence the interaction between the spirit and the cask wood. Sweetening and filtration are not part of its production methods.

The name Privateer draws on the founder’s family history: his ancestor Andrew Cabot, who lived from 1750 to 1791, was a merchant, rum distiller and American privateer. Letter of Marque also refers to this history. The term describes a document authorising merchant ships to operate as privateers.
