Red Beard Sailors Choice is distilled in Switzerland from imported sugar-cane molasses. The molasses comes from Caribbean sugar cane and is combined with Swiss spring water. The rum meets the requirements of the Swiss Organic Farming Ordinance and is bottled at 44% in a 0.5-litre bottle. Colourless in the glass, this white rum combines tropical fruit, berries and sweet, nutty notes on the palate. Its smooth character also lends itself to cocktails.

The name Sailors Choice forms part of the brand’s seafaring legend: in the story, Captain Balthasar’s crew preferred white rum and bottled it before it could be transported in casks. The pirate motif on the parchment-style label echoes this tale.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pineapple takes centre stage on the sweet-scented nose, joined by a little liquorice, raspberries, sour cherries and caramelised almonds.
• Palate: The rum is light, supple and gently sweet on the palate. Tropical fruit notes mingle with blackberries, raspberries and passion fruit, complemented by marzipan and dried fruit.
• Finish: Sugar cane and very ripe berries linger through the medium-length finish, accompanied by light nutty and floral notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Red Beard is produced by Langatun Distillery AG in Aarwangen. The distillery established 1616 Spirits in 2016. The name refers to the historic granary dating from 1616: to mark its 400th anniversary, Langatun first launched a gin, later adding rum and vodka. The Red Beard range joined this portfolio in 2022. Langatun makes its rums in Switzerland using imported sugar-cane molasses; Sailors Choice is also produced and bottled here.
