Special Features:

The Red Comyn is a twelve-year-old Speyside single malt from an undisclosed distillery. After maturing in bourbon casks, it was finished in hand-selected Ruby Port casks from Portugal. This secondary maturation gives it its reddish hue and accentuates its fresh berry character. Claxton's bottles the whisky at 48%, with no added colour and without chill filtration.

The name recalls John “The Red” Comyn, a Scottish rival to Robert the Bruce for the throne. The Comyn family once owned a castle on what is now the Dalswinton Estate, where Claxton's operates its maturation warehouses.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, strawberries and raspberries mingle with delicate floral notes and light vanilla.
• Palate: The whisky is creamy and sweet on the palate, with barley sugar, gentle ginger spice, peach and light oak shaping its character.
• Finish: The finish remains creamy as the berry fruit lingers and a hint of malt emerges.

Distillery/Bottler:

Claxton's is an independent bottler with maturation and warehousing facilities at Dalswinton Bond in Dumfries and Galloway. Historic stone buildings and former grain stores were restored for the site. Today, it offers both traditional dunnage warehouses and modern racked warehouses for shorter and longer periods of maturation.

When selecting casks, Claxton's sources them from specialist producers in several countries. The size, shape and type of cask are carefully matched to each spirit and its further maturation; The Red Comyn is finished in hand-selected Ruby Port casks from Portugal.
