Special Features:

This single-cask release from Rhum J.M combines maturation in Martinique’s tropical climate with a cask previously used for bourbon. Ex-bourbon cask number 162705 was prepared with a Char 3 level of charring and selected by Kirsch Import for this release.

Distilled in December 2014, the rhum entered its cask for maturation that same month. After just over eight years, it was bottled on 30 June 2023 at a cask strength of 50.3%. The cask yielded 259 numbered bottles, each containing 0.7 litres. The rhum is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. The bottle comes with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, juicy apple notes mingle with orange, nectarine and white grapes. Wood, toffee and cinnamon add further nuances.
• Palate: The rhum is intense on the palate, with caramel apple, candied peach and pear. Creamy vanilla and oak spice complement the fruit notes.
• Finish: Delicate Indian spice notes linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Rhum J.M is produced at the Distillerie de Fonds-Préville in Macouba, in northeastern Martinique. Since 1845, the distillery has stood at the foot of Montagne Pelée, between the Roches and Macouba rivers. Its sugarcane fields lie immediately beside the distillery on the 300-hectare Fonds-Préville estate, whose history dates back to 1790.

For this rhum agricole, fresh juice from locally grown sugarcane was distilled in a column still. The estate’s farming practices include crop rotation and fallowing, while the distillery also focuses on reusing production by-products. This particular single-cask selection was made under cellar master Karine Lassalle.
