The Noryo Tea Edition puts the two Japanese green teas Sencha and Gyokuro centre stage. The second release in the Seasonal Festival Collection celebrates summer and the tradition of Noryo: seeking relief from the heat, for example in a breeze by the water. These teas are already among Roku's six Japanese botanicals; this limited edition gives their influence particular prominence. Their selection follows the principle of Shun, with ingredients harvested at the peak of their season.

The design also reflects the focus on tea: tea leaf illustrations and green accents adorn the washi paper label, while botanical motifs are embossed directly into the glass. The gin is offered at 43% alcohol in a bottle containing 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Delicate grassy Sencha notes lead the nose. Gentle citrus aromas and classic gin notes sit behind them.
• Palate: Rich Gyokuro unfolds on the palate with layered tea flavours. Delicate sweetness and umami balance the lighter floral Sencha notes.
• Finish: Yuzu citrus notes, gentle Sansho spice and classic gin notes gradually unfold in the finish. They combine with delicate tea flavours for a harmonious close.

Distillery/Bottler:

Roku comes from Suntory, whose history began in Osaka in 1899. The gin is made at the Osaka Spirits & Liqueurs Craft Distillery. Its name means “six” in Japanese and refers to its six Japanese botanicals: cherry blossoms and cherry leaves, Sencha and Gyokuro, Sansho and yuzu peel. The hexagonal bottle also reflects this number.

In Osaka, the ingredients are first steeped in base alcohol to extract their aromas and flavours. The distillery adapts this process to each ingredient and selects the appropriate equipment for the subsequent distillation from four different stills. The individual aromatic distillates are then blended together. This allows the botanicals to be processed separately and balanced against one another in the finished gin.
