Special Features:

Two different sugarcane bases shape this rum: Romero & Sons blends matured molasses rums with nine-year-old sugarcane-juice rum. All components are pot-distilled, with natural yeasts used for fermentation. Maturation takes place in French and American oak. The resulting blend combines the mellow character of aged molasses rums with fruity and grassy notes. Dark fruit and a subtle honeyed sweetness complete the profile.

This limited release was bottled on 27 March 2021 and comprises 1,200 individually numbered bottles. The rum contains neither added sugar nor colouring and is bottled at 44% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Spices lead on the nose, accompanied by a little caramel. The aroma also conveys the mellow warmth of an aged molasses rum.
• Palate: Plums and forest fruits initially dominate the palate, before the fruity and grassy notes of the sugarcane-juice rum gain more prominence. The rum feels gentle and also reveals cooked red berries and cherries. Wood and winter spices, particularly cinnamon, complement the fruit.
• Finish: The long finish reveals gentle herbal notes and becomes slightly more bitter.

Distillery/Bottler:

The family business Romero & Sons has its roots in Quito. There, Alfonso Romero began building copper stills in 1906, laying the foundations for the future distillery. His grandchildren Johan and Ivanova Romero carry on the business. They draw on knowledge of fermentation, distillation and cask maturation passed down through generations, as well as stocks of old rums produced by the family. The rum is distilled, matured and bottled at the company's own facilities in the Ecuadorian Andes, at an altitude of almost 3,000 metres.
