Tropical ageing in former bourbon casks made from American oak shapes Ron Cristóbal Niña. The blend brings together column-distilled rums from the Dominican Republic aged for eight to twelve years. After maturation, the spirits are blended and sweetened with cane sugar. The rum is bottled at 40% alcohol without chill filtration.

Niña was the nickname of the Santa Clara, one of Christopher Columbus's ships, continuing the brand's maritime naming theme. The 0.7-litre bottle comes with a gift tube whose pink and green design echoes the bottle label.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Unripe strawberries mingle with floral notes on the nose. Subtle hints of fresh oak and crème brûlée with a caramelised sugar crust add further detail.
• Palate: Rich notes of mint chocolate and marshmallows unfold on the palate. The mouthfeel is silky, accompanied by a little spice.
• Finish: Vanilla accompanies the soft finish, with pleasant tannins complementing its gentle character.

Distillery/Bottler:

Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos produces the rums for the Ron Cristóbal brand in the Dominican Republic. The company harvests its own sugar cane, while fermentation and distillation also take place in the country of origin. The agricultural raw material for these rums therefore comes entirely from the Dominican Republic.

The Danish company 1423 ApS is behind Ron Cristóbal. Its beginnings date back to 2008, when a group of whisky-loving friends discovered rum at a fair. Their first blend combined rums from Barbados and Trinidad and was released in early 2009. The number of the selected sample, 1423, became the company's name. Alongside its own brands, the company also develops rum sets, such as the 24 Days of Rum calendar introduced in 2015.
