Special Features:

As a blend of malt and grain, Sunset Red combines smoke with a rounded, full and sweet profile. The whisky is bottled at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle; it is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

The concept draws on the red sunset over the scattered farmhouses, mountains and rice fields of the Tonami Plain. Red apple and caramel shape the whisky’s sweet side, while smoke and wood provide contrast and structure.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Saline air and wood open the nose; orange, ash, a hint of wax and caramel lie beneath a steady veil of smoke.
• Palate: The whisky is smooth, full and rounded on the palate, with caramel and red apple; the smoke remains present but is closely integrated with the sweet fruit.
• Finish: The finish is long-lasting, woody and sweet.

Distillery/Bottler:

SAB. Sunset Red belongs to the smoky SAB range launched by the Saburomaru Distillery in Toyama in December 2024. Sunset Red and Night Black were the first two releases in the range when it debuted on 12 December 2024.

The parent company, Wakatsuru Shuzo, was founded in 1862 and has produced whisky since 1952. Following an extensive renovation, the Saburomaru Distillery relaunched in 2017. Within the SAB range, Sunset Red combines the smoky style with a rounded interplay of red apple, caramel and wood.
