Maturation in former sweet wine casks shapes Santos Dumont XO Palmira, bringing sweet wine notes together with oak aromas and gentle tannins. This amber-coloured blend is smooth and full-bodied, with fruity impressions alongside spicy and more bitter accents.

The composition blends molasses distillates from the West Indies and Central America with Brazilian cachaça made from sugar cane juice. It brings different sugar cane traditions together in a single blend. Batch A15 comprises 2,000 individually numbered bottles. Bottled at 40% alcohol, it is available in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, intense apricot aromas sit alongside sweetish tobacco and leather. A hint of honey and rose petals completes the bouquet.
• Palate: The blend is smooth and mild on the palate. Tropical fruits and sultanas combine with sweet wine notes, cocoa and oak spice.
• Finish: The medium-length finish is light, with well-integrated dry tannins, leather and tobacco. Caramelised almonds, spicy honey and herbal notes add further detail.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Santos Dumont brand belongs to A.H. Riise Spirits and honours the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos Dumont. He came from a wealthy plantation family whose land was used to grow sugar cane and process it into rum and cachaça. Palmira refers to his hometown, which was later renamed after him.

The brand's blending approach brings Brazilian sugar cane juice distillates together with molasses rum from the West Indies and Central America. This combination of different raw materials is a defining feature of Santos Dumont. For Palmira, the selection of former sweet wine casks complements this approach with wine-like sweetness and gentle tannins.
