Scapegrace Gold adds dried mandarin to the Classic recipe. This London Dry Gin combines thirteen botanicals with three distinct citrus accents: orange, lemon and mandarin. Bottling at Navy Strength with 57% alcohol is as much a part of its profile as the contrast between juicy citrus sweetness and juniper.

The base is neutral spirit made from wheat, while the water comes from New Zealand's Southern Alps. Alongside the citrus fruits, the recipe includes juniper, coriander, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, angelica root, liquorice root, orris root, cinnamon and cassia bark. In 2018, Scapegrace Gold won the award for best London Dry Gin at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

The gin is made in small batches. Its black bottle bears a gold label, while the gin itself is clear. The bottle contains 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Orange blossom leads on the nose, accompanied by a hint of rose. The citrus notes are soft, sweet and zesty, with delicate pepper in the background.
• Palate: Citrus sweetness opens on the palate, while juniper shapes the flavour. Orange, lemon and mandarin complement one another, joined by a light peppery note.
• Finish: Earthy botanical notes emerge in the warming finish. Juniper remains present, with mandarin particularly distinct. The finish combines dryness with juicy sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Scapegrace Distilling Co produces the gin in New Zealand. A 19th-century whisky still is used in the production of Gold. The combination of this historic equipment and a botanical recipe sourced internationally shapes its approach: juniper and citrus peels come from Spain, coriander seeds from New Zealand and cardamom from Guatemala.

Scapegrace's current home is in Central Otago, near Lake Dunstan and Mt Pisa. After the search for a site, construction began in 2021; the warehouse, offices and other operational areas were completed in 2022. The new distillery began operating in June 2024. Cheshire Architects designed the two elongated buildings for the landscape of the Bendigo mountains.
