Special Features:

Extended maturation in former orange-Cognac liqueur casks sets this Shortcross apart from the distillery’s classic gin. It spends more than two and a half years in wood before being bottled at 42%. Juniper and citrus notes meet the aromatic influence of the casks’ previous contents. It can be enjoyed neat or in a Martini or White Negroni.

Its botanicals include elderflowers and elderberries, apples and wild clover, alongside coriander seeds, lime and orange peel, and cinnamon. Wheat spirit provides the alcohol base, while water from the distillery’s own spring brings the gin to bottling strength. Grassy, floral and wild-berry impressions remain alongside the cask notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, juniper, orange and pepper mingle with floral notes and a hint of vanilla.
• Palate: On the palate, vanilla and orange meet juniper and Cognac notes. A little pepper accompanies the spicy and floral impressions.
• Finish: The long finish turns peppery, leaving oily orange notes and a warming sensation.

Distillery/Bottler:

Fiona and David Boyd-Armstrong are the people behind Shortcross. Their Rademon Estate Distillery is located in County Down, Northern Ireland. The estate’s woods and gardens provide more than inspiration for the gin: clover, elderflowers, elderberries and apples for the classic recipe are also gathered there.

The couple commissioned German coppersmith Christian Carl to build a distilling system for their distillery. It combines a 450-litre copper pot still with two columns, each containing seven plates. The system was installed in 2013, and the first Shortcross gins reached the market in April 2014. Bottling, labelling and wax sealing were already carried out on site for these first bottles.

Facts:
