Special Features:

A finish in former Tawny Port casks adds a Portuguese cask influence to the maturation of this Bavarian single malt. For its finishes, SLYRS uses mature whisky that has undergone its initial maturation in American white oak casks. The Port casks used afterwards come from Portugal and previously held Port wine from the Douro Valley.

The miniature contains 0.05 litres of Port Cask Finish at 46% alcohol. The whisky has no added colouring and is not chill-filtered. Its fruity character combines with caramel and vanilla; the Port finish also finds expression in the dried berry notes on the palate and in the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, red berries mingle with caramel and vanilla. Spicy notes complement the fruity aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is layered, with a distinct impression of dried berry fruits.
• Finish: The long finish returns to notes of dried red berries.

Distillery/Bottler:

SLYRS is based in Schliersee-Neuhaus in Upper Bavaria and has been making single malt whisky since 1999. Master distiller Hans Kemenater works with a team of whisky distillers and brewers. The distillery uses malted brewing barley. After mashing, the wort is fermented under temperature-controlled conditions with a whisky yeast specific to SLYRS.

Distillation takes place in two stages in copper pot stills: the first distillation produces low wines, which are distilled again in a spirit run. The distillery selects the heart of this second run for maturation. Mountain spring water is used to bring the spirit to the desired strength before cask maturation. For the initial maturation, SLYRS uses heavily charred American white oak barriques with a capacity of 225 litres. Subsequent finishes in casks that previously held wine or other spirits add different flavour profiles to the range.
