Caramel takes centre stage in Karamellköm: cream gives the liqueur its full-bodied, velvety texture, while the unobtrusive flavour of the alcohol base allows the caramel to shine. It is made with ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin. The recipe contains cream and skimmed milk powder, but no egg. The liqueur is gluten-free, though not lactose-free, and is produced in small batches.

The cream liqueur is offered at 16% alcohol in a bottle containing 0.5 litres. It can be enjoyed neat or over ice and is also suitable for coffee, desserts and cocktails.

The bottle should be stored in a cool, dark place and the liqueur consumed within a year. After opening, refrigeration is recommended; it can be stored in the fridge for four to six months. If the contents separate, bring the bottle to room temperature and shake it vigorously to combine them evenly again.

• Palate: Creamy caramel and gentle vanilla come together on the palate. The texture is velvety and soft, with a delicate toffee note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Spitzmund has its roots in Kiel’s bar scene. Founder Andreas Werner spent many years developing cocktails there and gaining experience in how different flavours interact. This laid the foundations for the brand in 2013, with its own recipes and small-batch production. Spitzmund GmbH in Oyten is the company behind Karamellköm.

Design is also part of the brand’s story: Spitzmund worked with author, comic artist and illustrator Volker Nökel on the Klötenköm bottle. His illustrations also feature on the Karamellköm, Vanilleköm and Splitköm bottles.
