Stonewood Drà Strong One was distilled in 2020 and matured for five years in new American white oak casks whose wood was heavily toasted. The single malt was bottled undiluted at its natural cask strength of 49.3%. In the Upper Palatinate dialect, the name Drà refers to the number three and thus to the distillery’s third whisky.

The heavy toasting frames the malty and fruity notes with pronounced roasted and woody tones. The whisky is not smoky and contains no colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines ripe apricots with cinnamon and gentle vanilla. A subtle note of roasted grain adds further malty warmth to the aroma.
• Palate: The single malt feels creamy on the palate. Ripe pear provides distinct sweetness, while dark chocolate and roasted coffee contribute bittersweet depth and structure.
• Finish: The finish is long, balanced, rounded and layered.

Distillery/Bottler:

Schraml – The Stonewood Distillery e.K. is based in Erbendorf in north-eastern Bavaria, near the Steinwald Nature Park. The family history of the business began in 1818 with Johann Baptist Schraml and the distillation of grain spirits. In the late 19th century, the distillery began ageing a brown grain spirit in oak casks. Gregor Schraml revived the whisky business under the Stonewood name in 2004; the brand refers to its home in the Steinwald region.

The distillery prepares its whisky worts by mashing and lautering in a process similar to brewing beer. It uses Bavarian malts and different yeasts, distils several times and matures its whiskies in its own warehouse beside the distillery. Drà was first distilled from 100% malted barley in 2012 and joined the Stonewood range as its third whisky.
