Special Features:

A final maturation in a first-fill Oloroso sherry butt made from European oak shapes this Strathmill. The whisky was distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2024 after a total of twelve years of maturation, including the final 23 months in the Oloroso butt. Cask 367496 yielded 725 bottles at a cask strength of 58.3%. This single malt is neither chill-filtered nor coloured and comes in a presentation tube.

Dark chocolate, stone fruit and orange peel combine with honeyed sweetness, dried fruit and spicy oak. The bottling brings together fruity and chocolate notes with a pronounced sherry character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, raisins and figs mingle with sweet Oloroso notes. Hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and leather complement the dried fruit.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and velvety on the palate. Dark chocolate, stewed plums and walnuts are accompanied by spicy warmth, which then gives way to nuances of orange zest and toasted almonds.
• Finish: Sherry sweetness lingers through the long finish. Spicy oak and a hint of tobacco accompany the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

Strathmill is located in Keith in Speyside and was established in a former mill. The distillery is closely linked to the history of the J&B blend. Its production methods include fermentation for at least 60 hours in steel vessels and distillation in four pot stills. On the two spirit stills, purifier pipes lead from the lyne arm back into the body of the still; they contribute to the slightly oily character of the fruity new make spirit. These features describe the distillery's production practices, while the Oloroso finish for this bottling took place at James Eadie.

James Eadie is an independent bottler specialising in single casks, small batches and carefully chosen cask finishes. These finishes draw on types of fortified-wine casks that the original James Eadie also used. He founded his brewing and bottling business in 1854. His great-great-grandson Rupert Patrick later revived the whisky brand: historical business ledgers and a surviving bottle from the 1940s provided the basis for redeveloping the former blend with Master Blender Norman Mathison. Alongside this blend, James Eadie offers limited-edition single malts and single grains bottled without chill filtration and with their natural colour.
