Maturation entirely in Jamaica is central to this EMB Plummer. E&A Scheer and Velier blended rum from ten casks distilled in 2006, two from 2004 and four from 2002. All come from the same distillery and contain exclusively pot-distilled rum. This fourteen-year-old bottling thus combines several vintages in a Jamaica Vatted Single Rum.

EMB denotes the distillery's Plummer style here. The ester content is 324.5 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. This edition was created as the tropical counterpart to another fourteen-year-old EMB bottling whose rum matured in Liverpool. The comparison project focuses on the contrasting maturation conditions; this individually sold bottle contains only the version matured in Jamaica.

At 69.7%, the rum has a high alcohol content. It is offered without colouring and without chill filtration. The dark bottle with its cream-coloured label comes in red gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is concentrated and mature. Behind a light solvent note are stone fruits with a slightly oxidative character and pastry notes. With air, ripe tropical fruit becomes more apparent, while toasted oak, nuts, roasted notes and molasses also develop.
• Palate: The rum is lively and all-enveloping on the palate. Powerful woody notes lead the opening, accompanied by resin and pronounced tannins. The wood has a green character with almost medicinal qualities.
• Finish: Delicate fruit-stone notes, almond cream and dark fruits macerated in brandy linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Behind Monymusk is Jamaica's Clarendon distillery, established in 1949 on the grounds of the Monymusk sugar plantation. It initially operated with a single Vendôme pot still. A larger pot still and a five-column distillation plant were added in 2009. This EMB Plummer, however, uses exclusively pot-still rum.

This joint bottling brings together Amsterdam rum house E&A Scheer and Genoa-based Velier. Scheer's history dates back to 1712, while Velier was founded in 1947. Under Luca Gargano, Velier developed its own bottling programme, beginning with whisky in 1992 and adding rum in 1996. Its bottlings from Guyana and Trinidad were particularly instrumental in building the company's reputation. In this project, the collaboration with Scheer brings together two different perspectives on maturation: tropical storage and cask ageing in a European climate.
