Special Features:

This high-strength version of Takamaka's white rum belongs to the Seychelles Series. The distillery produces it from molasses in a continuous column still. Less water is added than for Rum Blanc, resulting in a bottling strength of 69%. It is unaged and bottled without chill filtration.

Warming spice shapes its powerful character, with citrus and vanilla accompanying subtle hints of banana and grass. In cocktails, these intense flavours can be paired with fresh lime and sugar or used in a tropical fruit punch.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, grassy and funky notes mingle with white peach, white pepper and cinnamon.
• Palate: On the palate, overripe banana and grass meet creamy vanilla, unripe pineapple and red grapes. Peppery, alcohol-driven spice accompanies the fruit.
• Finish: Ripe peach comes forward on the finish. Spice and pineapple linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Takamaka is produced by Trois Frères Distillery on the La Plaine St. André estate on Mahé's east coast. Bernard d’Offay and his father Robert began experimenting with distillation in 2000. Bernard's brother Richard later joined them, and the family opened its distillery in February 2002. Their grandfather René Michel d’Offay provided a family inspiration through his practice of macerating fruit and spices in alcohol to make Creole rum arrangé.

For its molasses rums, the distillery sources its raw material from the Indian Ocean region, as the Seychelles has no local sugar industry. The molasses is diluted with water from the distillery's own spring and fermented for three and a half days before distillation in the multi-column still. The water used for the Seychelles Series comes from a private spring in the hills of the Seychelles National Park.
