Special Features:

White rum and natural pineapple essences form the basis of Takamaka Zannannan. This rum liqueur belongs to the Seychelles Series and is produced on Mahé. Ripe pineapple sweetness meets fresh, slightly sharp accents and a lingering finish.

This clear liqueur is bottled at 25% alcohol in a bottle containing 0.7 litres. For an easy long drink, top it up with soda water and garnish with lime; it also works well in tropical cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, the liqueur recalls pineapple pieces preserved in sweet syrup.
• Palate: On the palate, the pineapple and sweetness are more restrained than the aroma suggests. The rum character remains discernible alongside the fruit, accompanied by pronounced peppery spice.
• Finish: Ripe pineapple and peppery spice linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Takamaka comes from Trois Frères Distillery at La Plaine St André on Mahé’s east coast. Its beginnings lie in the distilling experiments conducted by Bernard d’Offay and his father Robert in 2000. Bernard’s brother Richard later joined them, and the family opened the distillery in February 2002. Their grandfather René Michel d’Offay had already sparked an interest in rum by making Creole rum arrangé infused with fruit, spices and other botanical ingredients.

The distillery processes both locally grown sugar cane and imported molasses from the Indian Ocean region. For its molasses rums, it uses its own spring water, ferments the mixture for three and a half days and then distils it in a multi-column still. Takamaka thus brings together two different raw-material approaches within its range.
