Special Features:

This Tawny Port is a blend of wines from different vintages aged in oak casks for an average of ten years. The age statement therefore describes the average age of the blended wines. Taylor's uses previously used oak casks with a capacity of around 630 litres for maturation. During cask ageing, the initially dark colour gradually turns brick red with an amber rim.

The grapes come from the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior subregions of the Douro. Grape spirit is added to stop fermentation before all the sugar has fermented, producing a sweet, fortified wine. Subsequent cask ageing gives the Tawny its mature character with delicate woody notes.

This Port is ready to drink and does not need decanting. Served slightly chilled at 12 to 16 °C, it pairs well with almond desserts, dark chocolate or strong blue cheese. It can also be enjoyed on its own or with walnuts. Store the bottle upright, away from light and at a consistently cool temperature.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Ripe berries lead on the nose, accompanied by a delicate nutty note. Subtle hints of chocolate, butterscotch and oak complete the aromas.
• Palate: The Port is soft and silky on the palate. Its full flavour recalls ripe figs and jam.
• Finish: Notes of ripe figs and jam linger on the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1692, Taylor's focuses on producing Port wine. This independent, family-run house is rooted in Porto and the Douro Valley. Its work covers the entire journey from the vineyard through winemaking and ageing to blending and bottling.

The house owns the estates Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco, whose different vineyard sites help shape the style of its Vintage Ports. For its aged Tawnies, Taylor's maintains extensive stocks of cask-aged Port wines. These mature in cool warehouses on Portugal's Atlantic coast and provide the basis for selecting and blending the different age expressions.
