Captain Shug and the Second Sight is part of WhiskyHeroes Batch 4 from Brave New Spirits. Distilled at Teaninich in 2012, the whisky matured for 13 years and was finished in a first-fill Amontillado sherry hogshead. It was bottled at 51.9% with an outturn of 349 bottles, without added colour or chill filtration.

Stewed apples, walnuts, a chalky note and gentle tannins define its underlying character. Vanilla and honey complement the apple fruit, while tobacco, walnut and tannins give the Amontillado-influenced profile a more austere, dry side.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Delicate vanilla sweetness gives the nose a gentle, sweet opening.
• Palate: Honeyed sweetness and apple fruit lead on the palate, accompanied by a subtly spicy tobacco note.
• Finish: Walnut and fine tannins shape a long, dry finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Since 2000, Teaninich has used a hammer mill and mash filter in place of the conventional mash tun. This produces an exceptionally clear wort that promotes the distillate’s fragrant, grassy style, while the shape of the stills contributes to its oily texture. The distillery in Alness was founded by Captain Hugh Munro in 1817.

For Captain Shug and the Second Sight, independent bottler Brave New Spirits selected a Teaninich whisky and finished it in a first-fill Amontillado sherry hogshead. WhiskyHeroes is created by a small team that hand-selects single casks and small batches. The names and comic-style labels reflect the mood of each release and its individual whisky character.
