Special Features:

Maturation for 45 years in a Refill Sherry Puncheon shapes this Teaninich from Gordon & MacPhail's Private Collection. The whisky was distilled on 10 June 1977 and matured in cask 7010 until bottling on 8 November 2022. Refill denotes a cask previously used to mature whisky; its sherry influence comes from its earlier contents.

The single cask yielded 204 bottles at an alcohol strength of 63.3%. The Single Malt is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. Its natural colour recalls mahogany. The bottling is presented in a premium box.

Its non-smoky character combines a broad range of fruit with malty sweetness and creamy dessert notes. Leather and tobacco provide a more austere contrast on the palate, while the finish returns to fruit, malt and vanilla.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pineapple, apple and nectarine meet sweet barley malt and creamy pudding notes. Forest berries and dried fruit add to the fruity bouquet.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and intense on the palate. Cherries, blackberries, dates and mango combine with dessert notes reminiscent of vanilla ice cream with hot raspberries and whipped cream. Austere leather and a note recalling sticky tobacco provide a contrast.
• Finish: The long, layered finish leaves lingering juicy fruit, joined by the sweetness of malt sweets and a creamy vanilla note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Teaninich is located in Alness in the Scottish Highlands. Captain Hugh Munro founded the distillery in 1817. Another still house with three additional pairs of stills was built in 1971, a few years before this vintage was distilled. Much of the production is used for blended whiskies; single-cask bottlings, by contrast, offer an opportunity to discover the malt on its own.

Gordon & MacPhail is a family-owned company based in Elgin, with a history dating back to 1895. For its independent bottlings, the company supplied its own casks to Scottish distilleries, which filled them with new-make spirit. The whiskies then matured either at the respective distillery or in Gordon & MacPhail's warehouses in Elgin. The bottler's work thus began with choosing the casks, rather than only with selecting fully matured whisky.

For the Private Collection, the directors, including members of the third and fourth generations of the Urquhart family, select special casks from the stocks. Their single-cask bottlings place the emphasis on cask number, vintage and natural alcohol strength.
