Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 54.4% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
This 11-year-old Teaninich is part of Duncan Taylor's The Octave series and underwent its final maturation in a small Oloroso sherry octave. The whisky was distilled on 6 May 2015 and bottled from single cask 6749159 on 21 July 2026. Limited to 85 bottles, it was bottled at its natural cask strength of 54.4%, with no added colouring and without chill filtration.
The small octave format provides a large wood surface area in relation to the volume of whisky, intensifying the interaction during the final maturation. In this bottling, the Oloroso influence complements the malt's fresh orchard fruit with toffee, dark dried fruit, nutty sherry notes and pronounced wood spice.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, ripe apples and pears mingle with vibrant citrus notes and orange zest. Sugared almonds, a floral bouquet and pancakes with maple syrup meet soft vanilla, subtle malt sweetness and whipped cream. Nutty dried fruit and spices add further depth.
- Palate: The whisky is dry and fruit-driven on the palate. Ripe apple and dried mango combine with creamy toffee, light caramel sweetness and delicate vanilla sauce. Nutty sherry notes, sweet oak, ginger and pronounced wood spice provide bold accents.
- Finish: The finish is long, spicy and gently dry. Citrus peel, oak spice and toasted nuts linger.
Distillery/Bottler:
Teaninich was founded in the Highlands by Captain Hugh Munro in 1817. Since 2000, the distillery has used a hammer mill and mash filter instead of a conventional mash tun. This produces particularly clear wort, which contributes to the fresh, fragrant and grassy character of the spirit, while the bulbous stills support its oily texture.
Duncan Taylor selected this Teaninich for independent bottling as part of The Octave series. At its Huntly premises, the bottler carries out cask selection, work with the small octave casks, maturation and bottling. The series uses the greater ratio of wood surface area to liquid in these small casks to give the cask character greater definition during the final maturation.
