PALO was released in autumn 2022 to mark the Teerenpeli distillery’s 20th anniversary. The distillery uses malt peated to approximately 30 ppm for this gently peated whisky. It matured entirely in selected casks that had previously held Pedro Ximénez or Oloroso sherry. Finland’s climate also influences maturation in Teerenpeli’s container warehouses in Lahti.

The bottling strength of 46% was chosen during a live-streamed blind tasting with Teerenpeli ambassadors. The miniature contains 0.05 litres; the whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers rich fruit notes of cherry and plum, accompanied by gentle smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, dried fruit and peat meet a hint of liquorice. Figs, prunes and delicate wood smoke add to the fruity impression.
• Finish: Figs and walnuts linger on the finish, alongside gentle smoke, fruit and a touch of sherry sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Anssi and Marianne Pyysing’s family-run Teerenpeli group was founded in Lahti in 1994. It opened its first whisky distillery in the cellar of the Taivaanranta restaurant in 2002. Specialities are still distilled there, while most production now takes place in the Lotila district.

The distillery makes its single malts with malt and Salpausselkä groundwater. A 72-hour fermentation is followed by double distillation in Forsyths copper stills. PALO bears Teerenpeli’s own brand: the distillery distils the spirit, matures the whisky and bottles it itself.
